Sokol – The Falcon, is a bird that, by his swiftness and energy, symbolizes an active, vigorous, strenuous, real Spartan life, which is the ideal of Sokol programs. The Sokol movement was founded in 1862 in Prague in the Czech region, which later became Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic and Slovakia), by Miroslav Tyrš and Jindřich Fügner.  The Sokol organization started in the United States in 1865.  Our Washington, DC unit was founded in 1947.  It is based upon the Sokol principle of “a sound mind in a sound body.”
